Advertise team pride
When the New England Patriots went down 28-24 to the Kansas City Chiefs with 2:03 remaining in the NFC Championship Game, The Telegraph's Patriots Pride advertising promotion was looking uncertain. Last year's series of wrap sections and posters proved successful, but the Patriots hadn't been as strong this season and plans had been scaled back.
But when the team came back to win in overtime, the promotion was a go for the paper in Nashua, N.H., a Boston-area bedroom community that covers a strong part of New England's fan base.
So starting this past Sunday, The Telegraph is selling ads around posters of players inserted each day and posted on the website NashuaTelegraph.com for downloading as part of the paper's E-Edition. On Saturday before the big game, the paper will run a four-page wrap around the regular eight-page A section. Should the Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII, readers may expect to see a commemorative special section as well.

MOREYear in review: Transaction volume increases for fourth straight year
The number of deals involving daily newspapers continued its upward trajectory in 2018, with 36 separate transactions closed by year end.
It was the largest number of daily newspaper deals since 2000, and the fourth straight year of higher transaction volume.
The two key drivers of this activity were largely unchanged from the prior year: owners of clusters of publications seeking to build larger regional footprints, and the difficulties faced by small operators lacking the scale needed to manage expenses.

RSA is made up of several state employee pension funds. Its holdings include golf courses, office towers and, until now, Raycom Media, of which CNHI was a part. But Raycom was sold to Gray Media, while CNHI will remain based in Montgomery with RSA.

America's Newspapers – the association formed from the merger of the Inland Press Association and Southern Newspaper Publishers Association – was ceremonially launched October 6 at its inaugural annual meeting in Chicago.
Dean Ridings will be its chief executive officer, effective Nov. 11.
America's Newspapers unites two of the oldest press associations to form one of the industry's largest advocates for newspapers and the many benefits to their communities, civil life, freedom of expression and democracy.
"Newspaper journalism provides a voice for the voiceless, challenges elected officials, shines a light on government, calls for change when change is needed, and exposes corruption and injustice," said Chris Reen, the president and publisher of The Gazette in Colorado Springs who will serve as the first president of America's Newspapers.

MoreSNPA's staunchest advocate honored for 43 years of service
Edward VanHorn, who went to work for SNPA 43 years ago straight out of the University of North Carolina, will be honored at next week's SNPA-Inland Annual Meeting as this year's recipient of the Frank W. Mayborn Leadership Award. The award is named for the Texas newspaperman who helped shape SNPA in the early 1950s and served as president from 1961 to 1962.
"He's been that silent leader behind the newspaper industry and SNPA," said SNPA President PJ Browning, president and publisher of The Post and Courier in Charleston, S.C. "We're honored to have the opportunity to give him this award as he's retiring. We thought it was very fitting."
