'How-to' guide proves popular in Oak Ridge

Posted

This is the third year that The Oak Ridger (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) has produced its popular "How-To" guide, which offers exclusive category listings on a "first-come, first-served" basis.

When the paper first introduced this niche product in June of 2011, advertisers were balking at additional new products.  But, it quickly became popular and brought in $15,000 in new revenue.

"How-To" is a product of Green Shoot Media, an associate member of SNPA.

The publication offers nearly 200 categories of specific advertising possibilities, including:

  • How to choose a community college
  • How to choose an eye doctor
  • How to choose a daycare
  • How to choose a jewelry store
  • How to choose a real estate agency

Each listing is sold exclusively to whichever company or individual signs with the paper first.

The listings in the tabloid are full-page, including a half-page of copy that is provided by Green Shoot Media (but can be tweaked for an individual advertiser), plus a half-page ad.
