Robert Forcey has been appointed publisher of The Tribune-Democrat in Johnstown and its sister Maryland paper, The Cumberland Times-News.

Forcey had been a regional publisher of four newspapers owned by Lee Enterprises in upstate New York, including the Glen Falls Post Star.  He joined Lee in 2013 as publisher of the Auburn Citizen.

Previously, he was a regional director of sales for American Consolidated Media in Ohio and led digital development for GateHouse Media in Illinois. He has also served as an advertising executive for Suburban News Publications in Ohio, Gannett, Freedom Communications and Advance Internet.

"We are excited to have Robert join our teams in Johnstown and Cumberland," said Sharon Sorg, group publisher for CNHI, LLC, parent company of The Tribune-Democrat and Times-News. "Robert's proven leadership experience and community involvement will serve these communities well."

Forcey grew up in Morrisdale in western Pennsylvania and graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. He said his first order of business is to get acquainted with the Johnstown-Cumberland region and develop a growth plan for the newspapers.

"If you look at what community newspapers mean to America, if you really pay attention, you're going to know that we are the source for local news, weather, events, sports and local politics," he said.

"It is our passion to go out and make sure that we inform the public, and create public debate so that people talk about what's going on around them and can make informed decisions."
